The Patient Side of Sweet Mash

Hard Truth started small in 2015 — in the upper rooms of a pizza shop in

Nashville, Indiana. By 2018, the team had moved into a brand-new, 325-acre

sweet mash distillery, where Master Distiller Bryan Smith

and the crew have been quietly stacking barrels ever since.

This 7-Year trilogy is the first time those barrels have come of age.

Three mash bills. Three personalities. One unmistakable house style: warm,

layered, and built to be sipped slowly. Every drop is distilled, aged, and

bottled on the Hard Truth campus — true grain-to-glass.

How did PourPath get the Hard Truth 7-Year trilogy?

PourPath worked directly with Hard Truth Distilling Co. on an online allocation of these three 7-year-old bottlings. Once our allocation sells through, we can’t guarantee a re-stock.

What does "sweet mash" actually mean?

Most American whiskey is made with the sour mash process, which carries over a portion of a previous batch to keep the pH consistent. Sweet mash starts every batch fresh — no backset. It's harder to do well, but it lets each grain bill express itself more cleanly. Hard Truth has built its reputation on the sweet mash process.

How is the 7-Year Wheated Bourbon different from the Straight Bourbon?

The Straight Bourbon (BW-1) uses rye as its flavoring grain — expect spice, dark cherry, and toffee. The Wheated Bourbon (BW-2) swaps in wheat — expect a softer, rounder profile with notes of nougat, dark chocolate, and pecan pie. Same distillery, same seven years, completely different personality.

Are these bottles limited?

Yes — very. The 7-Year trilogy is Hard Truth's first ever 7-year-old release, drawn from a limited number of barrels. Once our allocation sells through, we cannot guarantee a re-stock.
